Our Fall 2018 trips are being planned!
Executive Director Susanne Wilson will be visiting partners and projects in Ethiopia,
then will go on to Tanzania. Travelers have the option
to wind up their trip after the Ethiopia itinerary.

While the Ethiopia/Tanzania 2018 itinerary is still being firmed up,
the following will give you an idea of what a Water to Thrive vision trip might include.

Two days before
Depart from Austin for D.C.

One day before
Depart from Washington, D.C for overnight flight to Ethiopia

Day 1
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Check into hotel, nap and a tour of Addis, early dinner.

Day 2
Afternoon flight to Arba Minch (south). Explore Chencha village
(home to Dorze people, renowned weavers). Overnight at Paradise Lodge.

Day 3
Boat ride over Lake Chamo, seeing some of African’s largest crocodiles, hippopotami,
and numerous aquatic birds including the kingfisher and fish eagle.
After lunch, drive to northeast (Hawassa) to meet with W2T partner SCES
(South Central Ethiopia Synod of Mekane Yesus). Overnight at Haile Resort in Hawassa.

Day 4
Visit projects with SCES. Overnight at Haile Resort.

Day 5
Visit projects with SCES. Overnight at Haile Resort.

Day 6
Drive to Abbis Ababa. Overnight at Saro-Maria Hotel, Addis Ababa.

Day 7
Morning flight to Lalibella. Upon arrival we will explore the famous sacred churches of Lalibella.
These incredible monolithic churches are carved directly out of the mountain and are still in use today.
Lalibella is one of Ethiopia’s holiest cities. The population is almost completely Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. Ethiopia was one of the earliest nations to adopt Christianity and its historical roots date |
to the time of the Apostles. Overnight at Roha Hotel in Lalibella.

Day 8
Morning flight to Gondar. Hotel check-in and tour of the Castle of the Kings.
Gondar is considered the Camelot of Africa and is a popular destination because of these historical ruins.
Overnight at Goha Hotel.

Day 9
Meet with W2T partner Ethiopian Orthodox Church and visit water projects.
Overnight at Goha Hotel.

Day 10
Visit more project sites with Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
Overnight at Goha Hotel.

Day 11
Morning drive to Simien Mountains. Like Lalibella, they are a World Heritage Site
and provide breathtaking views and a chance to see some wildlife. Overnight at Simien or Waliya Lodge.

Day 12
Travel to Axum. Tour historic sites including ancient obelisks, the Chapel of the Ark of the Covenant,
and the Church of St. Mary of Zion. Overnight at Sabean Hotel.

Day 13
Visit water projects with W2T partner REST. Overnight at Sabean Hotel.

Day 14
Spend the day in the field visiting more projects with REST. Overnight at Gheralta Lodge.

Day 15
Drive to Mekele and visit projects along the route. Traditional dinner in Mekele. Overnight at Planet Hotel.

Day 16
Morning flight to Addis Ababa. Spend the day in markets, resting, and repacking.
Evening flight back to the U.S.

Day 17
Arrive home with treasured photos and memories and a much deeper, richer understanding
of the blessing of clean, safe water!

Morning flight to Tanzania. Drive to park for safari.

Day 18
Safari park – Tarangire.

Day 19
Safari park – Ngorongoro.

Day 20
Pick up by W2T partner KNNAPA. Drive to Kiteto for project site visits.

Day 21
Project site visits with KINNAPA.

Day 22
Project site visits with KINNAPA. Drive to Arusha

Day 23
Depart for U.S.

Arrive Home
